Frequently Asked Question
When discussing data structuration, standardisation and exchange, a frequent pitfall is to assume we all mean the same thing when using the same words while actually we put a different meaning and/or flavour of meaning to the same word(s) depending on our background (IT, clinican, terminologist, linguist,...) or of the context. This can lead to unneeded quarrels, heavy misunderstandings and costly mistakes.
Therefore, the BeSafeShare team, the SPF members responsible for the Metadata, BMUC and standardized discharge summary, the eHealth team responsible for the FHIR-BE profiles and the CSCT members participating in the Care Sets workgroups have agreed upon the definitions of the following terms that are used in the Belgian structuration and standardization projects:
- Bundle
- Data
- Data model
- Element
- FHIR extension
- FHIR Profile
- FHIR Resource
- Form
- Information component
- Information product
- Metadata
- Node
- Record
